MISSION STATEMENT

The Korean Art Club of Calgary has been established to set a standard of excellence, integrity, and explore cultural diversity. The Korean Art Club will be an active leader in the community while sharing our Korean heritage with other cultures in Calgary, in Alberta, and with the rest of the world.

OUR OBJECTIVES
  • To assist Canadians of Korean heritage to appreciate all facets of their own culture
  • To actively involve and share with all Canadians the uniqueness of our culture
  • To play a prominent role in helping further people’s understanding and perception of Canadian heritage
  • To preserve and improve the skills from our Korean heritage for future generations
  • To learn from other people’s heritages and to unite with a goal of greater understanding and prosperity
  • To promote Canada and its opportunities to other Korean communities globally

  • Samul Nori performed in the K-Days Parade in Edmonton
  • Held Korean Festival to commemorate150th Anniversary of Canada
  • Samul Nori, Nanta and Korean traditional dances performed in Alberta Canada Day Celebration
  • Fifth Annual Art Contest
  • Fifth Annual Alberta Culture Days celebration
  • Samul Nori, Nanta and Korean traditional dances performed in Annual Japanese Days and Korean Days celebration
  • Samul Nori, Nanta and Korean traditional dances performed in Asian Culture Celebration held by Asian Heritage Foundation
  • Held a summer school for elementary children

  • Samul Nori performed at various parades in southern Alberta communities, Folk Festivals and Heritage Days, Canada Day Festival at the Calgary Zoo
  • Samul Nori performed in the Calgary Stampede Pre-Parade extravaganza
  • Samul Nori performed in the K-Days Parade in Edmonton
  • Delivered the Canada Day Celebration at Rimbey, Alberta
  • Second Annual Art Contest
  • Second Annual Alberta Culture Days celebration
  • Samul Nori performed at the Multicultural Night at the Jubilee Auditorium

2013 – A Brief Summary of Activities

  • Samul Nori performed at The Chinese Culture Centre, Don Hartman Centre, Multicultural Gala Night, and various parades in southern Alberta
  • A major highlight was marching in the Stampede Parade and the Calgary Stampede Caravan
  • The band performed in Lethbridge to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Canada/Korean relationship
  • Hosted our first Alberta Culture Days event at Korean Community Centre

  • Samul Nori performed at Multicultural Gala Night at Jack Singer Hall
  • Participated in Cultural Intersection at Calgary City Hall

2011 – A Brief Summary of Activities

  • Samul Nori performed at Civic Responsibility at the Corral
  • Held first annual Art Show at Jubilee Framing
  • Samul Nori performed at SAIT’s International Day Event
2011  The Korean Art Club was established through the efforts and desires of 5 founding women who wanted to expand their knowledge and understanding of oriental art. It was incorporated under the leadership of President Kyung Sook (Anna) Ko. The Club has moved to undertake a wider social responsibility offering not only oriental art classes but also traditional Korean dance and Samul Nori band opportunities.
